4 Reasons Why We Love The Obagi Skinclusion Movement

Obagi is a well-known name and leader in the skincare industry, but what’s even more notable than their high quality products is their commitment as a company to promote and educate around inclusivity. Obagi was one of the first organizations to include all skin tones in its clinical research tests, and now is going even further in the movement with the launch of the company’s SKINCLUSION initiative. SKINCLUSION is designed to promote an international conversation around diversity and beauty. Below, we’ll tell you a little bit more about Obagi’s SKINCLUSION initiative and 4 reasons why we love it so much!

What does SKINCLUSION mean?

The word itself combines the words skin and inclusion to drive home the idea that different skin tones should be celebrated. Obagi developed this important initiative to focus on the need for people around the world to be fully inclusive of different skin tones and to identify our unconscious biases around skin tone.

Four Reasons We Love Obagi SKINCLUSION

Reason #1: Priyanka Chopra Jonas is the Spokesperson

Priyanka Chopra (Jonas) is the face of SKINCLUSION. The initiative features SKINCLUSION ambassador, actor, producer and activist Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who has been dedicated to fighting for inclusion and diversity throughout her career. As if we couldn’t love her more, Priyanka is paving the way for skin tones all across the globe with her passionate activism.

Reason #2: It Tests Your Unconscious Bias

Unconscious biases are attitudes and stereotypes that are largely unintentional, automatic and outside of our awareness. Unconscious biases can cause “blind spots” that prevent us from seeing the beautiful humanity we all share. Obagi’s SKINLUSION initiative offers a “Skin Tone Implicit Association Test” to help us recognize our own bias and to then challenge and overcome it to promote diversity.

Reason #3: It’s Easy to Join the Social Media Conversation

You can join the global conversation by using the hashtag #SKINCLUSION on your social channels. Social media allows us to expand our reach and understanding globally to understand why diversity and inclusion are important to other people and how unconscious bias has affected people throughout the world.

Reason #4: It’s Also a Charitable Cause

The best part about joining in the conversation is that Obagi will donate $1 for every participant to support the International Cultural Diversity Organization (ICDO) and Project Implicit up to $150,000 in total donation money!

You can get involved in the SKINCLUSION movement by joining the conversation on social media, donating to the cause, taking the unconscious bias test, and supporting Obagi by purchasing their skincare products at any of our AAD locations.
